Thrive and Not Just Survive

MADE ALIVE to THRIVE and not just SURVIVE!

July was a busy month at Spring City Care and Rehab! We had activities planned all month and also had children in the facility for Kids Camp! The elders seemed to enjoy having meals, doing crafts, and sharing Jug Band with the children. The Children also enjoyed “helping” the elders with their crafts. I was reminded that through Christ, we are made “ALIVE”! Our God is a god of life! He created life in the beginning. The Bible teaches us that He knits us together while we are in our mother’s womb. Also, He gives us new life and gives it abundantly! I see it everyday here at Spring City Care and Rehab, we are MADE ALIVE to THRIVE and not just SURVIVE!

Living Life to the Fullest

Last week was Nursing Home Week and did we ever celebrate. We went clowning at the Strawberry Festival and rode in the parade on Saturday. There were cookouts at the facility and some went to the park for a picnic and fishing. We took some of the residents to do “Senior Olympics” with another facility. Home-made ice cream and hot-fudge sundae’s were some of the favorite desserts served.

Our residents come here to live the best life they possibly can. We enjoy our fun times! I think of the Bible verse from Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

“I Sing Because I’m Happy”

I am reminded of the song whose lyrics say, “I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I am free.”  We sing a lot here at Spring City Care and Rehab!  We have numerous occasions throughout the week, special singings, and then sometimes going down the hall. Why do we sing so much?
Psalm 30:4-5 “Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.  Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”

Smile and Make Someone Smile

What a wonderful day it was today, at Spring City Care and Rehab! Elvis was in the building! The excitement was overwhelming and the residents had a wonderful time (as did some staff and visitors from the community). Our staff tries to do things everyday that will help alleviate the residents boredom. We are here to help them live well! Today it was easy, Elvis sang everything from “Peace in the Valley” to “Jailhouse Rock” and there were plenty of smiles to go around.

The Bible says in Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” & Proverbs 15:13 “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”

Spring is in the Air

Most of the folks in our facility (both residents and stakeholders) are excited that Winter is leaving and Spring is on it’s way. I hear news of the upcoming garden and flowers that will be blooming. Spring is such a refreshing time as we remember that our God is the one that renews!  It is He that gives new life and mends the broken.  We are excited about some of the Spring events when we can go outside and enjoy God’s beautiful creation.   Psalm 50:1-2 “The mighty God, even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down hereof.

Barnabas

I love a man in the Bible by the name of Barnabas. Almost every time we see Barnabas he is encouraging someone.  We see Barnabas encouraging the poor, we see him encouraging the newly converted Paul, & we see him encouraging the young John Mark and Titus.  There are many in our facility that needs encouragement on a regular basis.  I see very kind staff members reach out with a compassionate hand to comfort and calm a weary heart.   In a world filled with greed and selfishness, it is a breath of fresh air to see people selflessly give of themselves everyday.  Now….To whom can you be an encouragement today?

“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!”

Today was Spring Break here at Spring City Care and Rehab. We had a lot of things planned to do, and were really looking forward to going outside and soaking up some sun. There were to be games, a pic-nic, and even a dunking booth featuring yours truly. The pre-school kids from next door were coming to play with the elders, and it just sounded like we were headed for fun. But, as sometimes happens, we got rained out. The weather was just too wet to go outside.

Still, we did have some fun. Maintenance grilled under the porch while dietary prepared the beans, slaw, and all the other things needed for a first class bar-b-que. We moved the tables around and played games in the dining room, most of the day. There was balloon volley, and parachute ball. There was singing, and talking, and fun. All of it was inside, but the fellowship was warm, and we were all a little happier in the end.
